The well known Damian Jr. Gong Marley originally debuted in the reggae group, the Shepherds. He teamed up with Shiah Coore (son of Cat Coore), Yashema Beth McGregor (daughter of Freddie McGregor and Judy Mowatt) and his brother Julian Marley. They preformed once together in 1992 and by the next year, Jr.Gong was doing his thing as a solo artist with nothing but support from the Marley family and friends, like Shiah and Yashema.
